Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character: Karkat Vantas is very, very, very angry and hates a lot of things.
In fact, Karkat as a rule is extremely emotional, and Not a Nice Person. He's petulant, obnoxious, and insulting, with little concept of an inside voice. Prone to fits of rage, it's not uncommon for him to be found slamming his fists into his keyboard, screaming in fury, or banging his head against a desk. He overreacts, constantly subjects others to his explosive temper, and is fond of increasingly ridiculous metaphors and euphemisms that relay just how angry he is about everything.
All this anger, however, seems to be a front for Karkat simply caring too much. He becomes genuinely upset when his Lusus is killed by an exploding computer, bursts into tears when he witnesses the deaths of his friends, and is somewhat prone to mental breakdowns. For the violent, ruthless, and legitimately insane society to which he belongs, these kinds of feelings are most certainly considered a weakness, and as a result, Karkat spends an awful lot of time maintaining his "internet tough guy" facade, lest his friends think him a sissy and a terrible troll.
Which he is, by the way. He's pretty crummy--Vriska, at one point, even says that Karkat would probably make a better human, simply because of his empathic nature. Though he aspires to be a member of an elite fighting force called the Threshecutioners, when push comes to shove he is perhaps the least violent of the trolls, acting aggressive and bloodthirsty without a desire to actually kill or conquer those weaker than him, the hallmark of his species. He does, in fact, have values and a concept of friendship that seems to go beyond the troll standard of mutual pity, hating Vriska because she's a backstabber, for instance.
This does, unfortunately, make him incredibly insecure. Combined with his blood mutation, he feels like an outcast of society, and therefore tries very, very hard to compensate for his supposed inadequacies. Mostly, it just manifests as being very loud, and very angry, rather unsuccessfully disguising his true, total creampuff nature. For as much as he shouts and carries on, there is a large part of him afraid this grouchiness will make people dislike him. His relationship with Sollux, the closest friend he has at his introduction, consists mainly of fights and insults, quickly followed by WE'RE STILL FRIENDS, RIGHT? He's somewhat needy in that he requires constant reassurance of the "no, you're not a failure and yes, I still like you" kind.
When not being angry at anything and everything, Karkat is surprisingly helpful and levelheaded. He's the designated advice-giver of the group, especially when it comes to the convoluted ins and outs of Troll Romance. Yes, he enjoys terrible romantic comedies. Yes, his relationship advice is actually sound. It's too bad he has trouble following it himself.
Asserting himself as the leader of his group of friends, he obsesses over plans and courses of action, possibly because he's rather incapable of calmly handling detours or setbacks. Still, being a good leader is incredibly important to him, and most of his energy goes into trying to organize the many timey-wimey relationships between the troll and kid sessions. Despite his many aggravations with Team Adorabloodthirsty, he strives to be a the best leader possible for them, and suffers greatly when inter-team killing becomes an issue, to say nothing of when the kids' session takes a turn for the worse because of an error he made. He considers these his personal failures and ultimately questions whether he was the best choice for leader after all.
Karkat hates a lot of things, but he hates himself the most.
Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:
Homestuck | Alternia, the home planet of the Trolls | Karkat @ MSPA wiki
Karkat arrives on Stacy just after the update that starts here and ends here. He and the remaining Trolls have rendezvoused with Sollux, Aradia, Dave, and Rose at the Green Sun, and John has just sent the assembled group a message via Jade's space powers, in the form of a bucket.
So, of course, the last thing Karkat remembers is being smacked in the face by the most offensive item in Troll society.
EGBERT.
Sample post (just a general, everyday, puttering-around-the-ship post; please include a snippet of dialogue):
That bucket.
That bucket.
Sure, it had been the last thing he touched before being yanked from his world (what was left of it), onto this crazy fuckbasket of a living ship, but that did not give anyone the right to put that thing in with his stuff. Just carrying it to the crew quarters so nobody else would be subjected to its utter lewdness was perhaps the most humiliating, disgusting thing he'd ever done in his six solar sweeps.
He did, at least, find the note, though he wasn't sure if that made things better or worse.
"You think you're funny, Egbert?"
The bucket, of course, was unresponsive, but that wasn't going to dissuade Karkat. There were tirades to be had.
"You think you and your little master-prankster bucket-chucking letter delivery service is funny?"
It was staring at him.
Mocking him.
"You write us a note on the poster for one of your shitty human movies and think we'll all laugh and hug and OH JOHN IS SO FUNNY AND ALSO CLEVER and cavort off into the BLAZING GREEN INFERNO of our newfound friendship and sloppy makeouts? WELL GUESS WHAT? NOBODY'S HERE."
He balled his hands into fists, crumpling the poster-note. "I am stranded on a TALKING SPACESHIP who thinks she's my CUSTODIAN, or some steaming pile of hoofbeast shit like that and our worlds are gone. Again. So, to recap, it's me, a bunch of humans, no recuperacoons, and Cripples the Troll, who should actually be dead but for some reason. Is not. That's it. So to answer your question, NO. NO YOU ARE NOT FUCKING FUNNY, EGBERT."
At that very moment, it seemed entirely appropriate for Karkat to punt the bucket. Which he did, of course, only to have it ricochet off the wall and bean him in the face.
And the rest is silence.
If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
Though it doesn't afford him any special powers, Karkat is a mutant of Troll society based simply on his blood color--a bright, candy red. This is something he keeps secret at all costs, as on Alternia such a mutation is grounds for "culling". Trolls generally display their blood color through symbols and text, and Karkat maintains his anonymity by using a NONDESCRIPT SHADE OF GRAY.
I will have a permissions post for the text, though it will, of course, only be used on the network.
Non-superhuman special abilities of note (Is your character a master ventriloquist? A naturally-occurring super-genius? The best martial artist in the world? Say so here):
Karkat's strife specibus (a fancy Homestuck way of saying 'weapon-of-choice') is Sicklekind. He thinks it makes him look really cool, but really it doesn't, though he is certainly competent with this particular weapon.
He is also in possession of something called a Sylladex, an abstract item-storing system that is better not to think about. Karkat "captchalogues" items through an "encryption" modus--essentially, to retrieve items stored in the sylladex, he has to hack open the device, which he is not very good at. At some point he traded with Sollux for an unspecified (and presumably more functional) modus, but aboard Stacy he won't use the mechanism frequently. He'll use it to store his sickle, and have a few empty captchalogue cards just in case.
In his Sburb session, his title was the Knight of Blood, though it is unspecified as to what kinds of powers (if any) this actually entails, as he never ascended to the God Tier (fully realized version) of his class. Having played (and almost won) the game, however, it can be assumed he is a capable fighter despite his age (about thirteen human years).
